Many who saw the movie were taken with the knife, and both Beck and Brown Jr. This film, "The Hunted" was released in 2003. were both asked to be a part of a Hollywood Motion picture, Dave creating the blades, and Tom adding his tracking expertise. In 1991 the trademark "Tracker" appeared on Beck's knives. From 1988 to 1998, Dave made hundreds of trackers in this similar style, with different handle variations, but with the hollow inner grind. In 1988 Dave Beck was asked to take over making Tracker Knives for Tom Brown Jr., and worked on refining the concept.ĭave added double rows of sawteeth, a finger choil for two hand positions, and added a quarter round, blending the transitions from inner blade to chopping blade. I give you, The Evolution of the Tracker! (This is to the best of my knowledge and research. From humble beginnings to mass produced household name. In my search to understand the function of every aspect of its design, and especially as an aspiring backyard bladesmith, I have collected as many photos as possible to document the evolution of this knife design. As many of you know, I have long been an admirer of the much-debated Wilderness Survival Knife (WSK) aka, the Tracker.
